Rusted

You are not alone. I am not alone. We are not alone. We are all linked together. We are in groups, teams, families. I am linked to other people. You are linked to other people. And you know what they say: you are only as strong as the weakest link.

But how does the link get so weak in the first place?  Rust.

Exposure to negative elements causes it to rust.  It begins to corrode.  Without a doubt, the rusted, corroded link will give out and break.  But what is even worse is that rust will spread to the links around it.  It will continue to spread, link by link.  The whole chain starts to deteriorate. Bitterness. Anger.  Resentment.  Pride.  Those are what creates rust.  Not being cared for.  Being left out.  Being ignored.  More rust. Isolation. Jealousy. Selfishness. More rust.

So how do we prevent rust? How do we prevent bitterness from rusting our hearts?  Prayer.  Give it to God.  Every day.  Polish your link...your heart...and every day give all of your day, all of your emotions to God.  Let it all out.  And pray that He takes those feelings, those emotions and transforms them into grace.  Into  understanding.  Into love and joy.  Into forgiveness and kindness. Into gentleness and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22)

When you give it to God, you let Him renew you. He takes the old, rusted, corroded you and scrapes away the rust. He polishes you and makes you new again. That's the power of God. The power of Jesus. He made the lame walk, the blind see, the deaf hear. He raised the dead. He rose from the dead. He can certainly take you, remove the rust in your heart, repair the corroded holes. He can make you something new, something perfect, something spotless. He can take you from the weakest link and turn you into the strongest link. It's what He does.

Don't let those ugly emotions take hold of your heart or mind.  They will corrode you and eat at you until there is nothing left.  And when your link breaks, you let the link under you down.  You separate from the chain above.  And you are left broken and alone.

While rust makes for beautiful photos, it doesn't belong in our hearts.
